Guatecaña and the Association of Sugar Technicians (Atagua) announce the 38th edition of the Sugar Race, which will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., starting from Interplaza Shopping Center in Escuintla.
With 38 years of tradition, the Sugar Race brings together thousands of runners from the South Coast, families, and sugarcane agroindustry workers to celebrate the start of the sugarcane harvest season (Zafra) and a shared passion for sports.
This year, the race will begin one hour earlier, at 7:00 a.m. Participants will complete a 10.5-kilometer route through the main streets and avenues of Escuintla. The Start and Finish lines will be located at Interplaza Shopping Center in Escuintla.
Registrations are now open in the following categories: Open, Masters, Sugarcane Agroindustry Workers, and Atagua Members, with both male and female divisions. The registration fee is Q125 for the Open and Masters categories. Payment can be made through Banco Industrial using Agreement Code 5727 under the name Asociación de Técnicos Azucareros de Guatemala. With the deposit slip, registration must be completed [here].
Sugarcane agroindustry workers and Atagua members can register through the Human Resources department at their mill.
“The Sugar Race is a tradition that celebrates life, friendship, family, our land, and a love for sports. At Guatecaña, we are proud to promote the values of sport and create spaces where thousands of people can come together to enjoy and share,” said Lorena Flores, Communications and Engagement Manager at Asazgua.
“The safety and well-being of our participants is our top priority. That’s why we’ll have 11 hydration stations and 8 medical assistance points along the route. We invite everyone to register and take part in the sweetest race of the year,” said Wendy Del Cid, President of Atagua.
Race kits will be distributed on October 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Interplaza Shopping Center in Escuintla. For more information, visit the event on Facebook: Carrera del Azúcar 2025.
